What Fasting and GLP-1s Have In Common

We recently surveyed a subset of our community, and what we found is what we’ve always suspected: Zero users don’t all look the same.

Some of you are deep in a fasting practice. Some are on GLP-1 medications. Some are still figuring out what’s next. Many of you are a combination of all three.

But you all have something in common.

It’s the Protein Problem.

The reality is, no matter where you are on your health journey, you still have to eat. What you eat becomes the building blocks for your body. And if you’re already eating less — because of fasting, GLP-1-reduced appetite, or both — the nutrient that consistently shows up as hardest to get right is protein.

Our survey found that two of the biggest concerns for those on a GLP-1 were “muscle loss” and “getting enough protein.” These are the same challenges we’ve seen with fasting for years.

This is why we built protein tracking into Zero Plus. And then we took it a step further.

We created the Protein Score to give you a simple, at-a-glance view of how you’re doing. No complicated logging required; you snap a photo of your meal and get instant feedback that you can act on. Because whether you’re fasting, using a GLP-1, or thinking about what comes next, the goal is the same: maintain muscle, fuel your body well, and build something sustainable.

Zero’s Next Frontier

That last part, building something sustainable, is what we at Zero are focused on. We’ve helped millions of people integrate fasting into their daily lives. We’ve developed tools to make the fueling component (especially the protein part) easier to nail. And now that we’ve built something that can benefit both groups, we’re looking into how we can support the needs of GLP-1 users alongside our fasting cohort.

For many people, GLP-1s are a powerful starting point, but they’re not the whole story. At some point, everyone needs an approach they can carry forward for the long term — one that supports weight management, strength, and lasting health.

That’s where we see Zero fitting in. We are experts in building habits that last, and we’re excited to extend that capability to support people starting, taking, or transitioning off a GLP-1. Our team has come up with some amazing ideas with that full journey in mind.

If you have thoughts on what would make such an experience smoother, easier, or just more useful, I’d love to hear them – send a note to mikemaser@zerolongevity.com.
